Notes About The Poem

I have been adrift without inspiration and so posted an old piece which received such a heavy critique to at least have the effect of dislodging my stuck muse. I must say, twas my first poor grade ever in creative writing.

The Butt of My Own Joke

My verse is free
My cadence my own
But maybe I should stick to
I Do Not Know
For trying to find
A pigeon hole
Constipates my poetic flow
While I love to cook
I love to taste
I'm hard pressed to follow a recipe
I'm here to admit
Despite my best efforts
It simply isn't me
So in I Do Not Know
I will push my poems
Such should suite me fine
There I can stick my rhyme
Wherever I like
Including where the sun don't shine.

It's a give-and-take between conveying your exact meaning, or to compromise meaning to tell it more pleasing

A humorous expression of your freedom to write as you please, without sticking to any rules. Poetic license!

Cool slam humor, Maureen. I find that when I write a poem, I have a feel towards what minds it might appeal to, and thus label it to their liking. For instance, if it is romantic, I'll label it under "Romanticism", etc. Tends to get the comments from the well-informed poets in their particular area of expertise and taste. It helps me hone my poetic skills in that poem form area. That's just a suggestion. Love this poem though. Love always

Took a gander at this meander, a smile broke out on my face. Often unheeded, smiles are needed, to survive in this damned human race. GOTD! (giggle of the day award) huggasnootchies ~ j

Writing poetry my friend Maureen is like a bird singing! Should we forbid a bird to sing because it doesn't know how to read musical notes?
