["The Breeze" was first published in Prairie Poets magazine, Prairie Press Books; reprinted in my first poetry chapbook, "The Lady in the Pink Hat," Candor Press, 1969.]

The breeze sighed Through the valley Like a whisper Floated across the room, A breeze of sweetness To dispel the gloom, Its marimba played The gentle leaves a simple tune, Dancing over troubled keys Like sunbeams Before the storm at noon, And little cares tripped Along low-hanging boughs To leave the valley Peaceful and calm.
