The Breaking of Dawn

Did I say goodbye? I can’t remember, but it don’t matter now, she will be waiting, for me to come home, and she keeps on forgiving somehow. She always worries, when it gets late. She says she can’t sleep on her own. That’s what she told me, in the heat of the moment, and next day she says she’ll be gone. But she hasn’t left yet, so her threats can’t be real, so why should I change for the better. And if she did leave, I’m sure that I, wouldn’t take long to forget her. Because the bar rules are my rules that matter, with booze and pretty girls ‘til the morn - but when I walked through our door one sunrise, I was there for the breaking of Dawn. From midnight to four, she must have been crying, and that’s when she made up her mind. Two cases of clothes, and one heart that’s torn - the rest she just left behind. Because the bar rules are my rules that matter, with booze and pretty girls ‘til the morn - but when I walked through our door one sunrise, I was there for the breaking of Dawn. Yes Dawn is broken, and I broke her heart. She just couldn’t wait for the morn. I should be ashamed, for what I have done, to bring on the breaking of Dawn.

When the fire goes out and love is no longer there. Sad but true in many cases and we see it more and more. Well written Lindsay. love phyl

A lovely, stirring ballad, albeit a sadder-and-no-wiser one as well. Poignant penning, Lindsay! :) gw

Hello Gershon … it appears to be in the genes at time and being where the temptation is its greatest doesn't help either - thanks Gershon - Lindsay

Such pathos in perfect verse Lindsay. I may be in error, but most of us go about life inevitably hurting someone in action or inaction. I don't know if this is realism or fiction and don't need to. You captured human nature quite well. We need all look in our own mirrors. Panagiota xx

Hello Panagiota … I can't disagree with your comment. Fortunately it's fiction to me, but I've seen this happen and heard about it too often - thank you Panagiota - Lindsay

Such realism and heartbreak in this poem. It's like a condensed version of an all too common sad romance which could have/would have ended so differently. Some men are just not ready to settle down until they are much older unlike most women. Lessons learned on both sides I'm sure.

Sad that one could be responsible for the breaking of dawn, but it is sometimes only when we lose someone that it means everything. A great poem as usual - powerful Lindsay, well penned my friend. Blessings, Jennifer.

Thank you for commenting Sandra. It's meant to be a country style set of lyrics, and they have that double meaning view - Lindsay
