The Bells In Honor of Edgar Allan Poe

A Revised Edition From The Works of the Late Edgar Allan Poe, vol. II, 1850 In the icy air where the stars do sprinkle bright keeping time, keeping time with the jingling bells of night it is there I lay my heart, my lonely heart Hear the mellow wedding bells the golden bells of happiness, ringing to foretell Through the balmy air of night how they ring with such delight from the molten-golden notes, the liquid ditty floats A gush of euphony within her dwells for a future that foretells of the rapture that impels from the swinging and the ringing of the bells, to the rhyming and the chiming of the bells! Later how they clang and clash and roar in the throbbing air hear the tolling of the bells, the bells, the bells in a world of solemn thought, their monody compels in the silence of the night she shivers with affright And the lover oh the lover, dwelling deep inside the steeple all alone,.. tolling, tolling, in that muffled monotone turns her heart to solid stone, as she listens to the bells the bells, the bells, the bells...

A lovely lyrical likeness to Poe’s bells but in your voice, dear Rose! “Keeping time with the jingling bells of night.” “ from the molten-golden notes, the liquid ditty floats.” “ Later how they clang and clash and roar in the throbbing air,” and the lover dwelling deep inside the steeple. Congratulations on your placement in my contest! ~ Kim

Awesome poetry, my friend. I hear the sound of bells--in tenor of your poem--Poe would be proud. Excellent!

"Through the balmy air of night how they ring with such delight from the molten-golden notes, the liquid ditty floats". As an undergraduate student I have loved Edgar's poem. Our teacher read out this poem as an example for jingling rhythm and he introduced Poe as a poet of macabre scenes. Your poem comes almost close to Poe's poem in beauty. Well done dear Rose!

Dear Sweet rose, Ah i see how it is revised with addition of your lines to it? I had to go read poes bells before i comment on this because well, i have very bad memory and i needed to read again to remember and i must say this poem is just beyond brilliant. How words echo throughout the poem with assonant sound actually makes one hear bells too as we read. I love bells bells bells. The repetition here works in eloquence: amazing as im not usually into repetition but wasnt he a genius.LOVE this

Yes he was Ink, I wish I had met him, but these days we can only meet him through his poetry, still the echo of his poetry remains in us, like bells bells bells, thanks for taking so much time to read it, :)

oh, I liked this eerie creation! I was on the edge of my seat as I read it. I especially liked: Later how they clang and clash and roar in the throbbing air hear the tolling of the bells, the bells, the bells in a world of solemn thought, their monody compels in the silence of the night she shivers with affright. You have a special poetic gift that is most evident in this poem. Excellent! Have a pleasant evening, hugs, Sara
