The Barge Pole Brigade
THE BARGE POLE BRIGADE
Well, it didn’t take long on my barge pole idea to click
The next time I got to the supermarket all had a stick
Barge poles, vaulting poles, or plain old walking sticks
All poking at each other getting on each other’s wicks
Until we'd arranged ourselves into some happy queue
then as the doors opened, that for of us was our cue
It was, almost to me so like the blind leading the blind
As we went all shopping; in quite a decent orderly line
Mind; don't waste time on loitering on something dear
Wasting time; only gets you a painful poke in the rear
Some of us broke rank; as onto another aisle we went
Others who had no poles, all rushed in with bad intent
Only to be poked out of the away, no cheating allowed
With some very choice words spoken rather quite loud
The till queue went on a bit, but; we all kept our space
With the barge poles and sticks, we as knew our place
In all intents and purposes; everything went quite well
As staff thanked us, from what was before a living hell
