"If I keep a green bough in my heart, the singing bird will come."
- Chinese Proverb
I saw a glimpse of orange in a tree today
It was a Baltimore oriole, as he quickly flew away
My feeders are full with suet, sweet nectar, and sunflower seeds
To attract my feathered friends and fulfill their dietary needs
I sip my hot coffee as I sit in my backyard, waiting for the show
I am excited to see birds appear that I may not already know
I can hear all their musical singing and some new chirping sounds
I hope to see a rare bird today, as I see movement on the ground
I see a spring red robin jump and chirp along the fence gate
Then fly to the ground foraging, while singing in a cheery state
A bright blue-Jay lands as the songbirds quickly scatter away
Puffing his blue plumage, chirping, calling out to his mate today
I go inside to refill my mug since there are no new birds in sight
As I look out and see an albino hummingbird in feathers all white
Feeding, sipping on nectar with opalescent wings rapidly flapping
A rare sighting, I almost missed, I can’t believe this is happening
I walk out to my backyard and no longer see the rare hummingbird
As I sit, I hear a sweet, unusual chirping, not sure what I just heard
I look up and spot the rare white hummingbird perched in an oak tree
I am elated to see it again, hoping it will come back down and visit me
