The Living Force of Forever

When night comes and the house sleeps The windows display a dark quiet Sleep has ended this I know There in the tall thick pines that meet I can hear the sounds of the owl Softly calling out the same note Over and over — in my heart I send him a song Three stars shine in the distance One with a red pulse radiating The others in brilliant white The cold rope in my chest loosens I feel it deeply as it unwinds Fear or fatigue I wonder, I will not go for another test I know a force exists that gives us rest. I want— I need to feel this Divine presence The accessible accepting eternal The expanse of an energy of evolving life Once I felt a warmth and gentle flow of Being, A living energy — then I lost all harmony All the doctors and tests, all the pain the pills All the struggles to survive — all hiding The Creator, the presence of the eternal The kindness the openness of a Love That stretches beyond anything I have known or will know All extends beyond the sound of the owl The light of a stars, the calm of the chants And I do not want to be without this peace The kindness and intelligence of a Buddha The gentle understanding and love of a Christ The awareness of the chants of nuns and monks The harmony of the spheres Of the living breathing earth Let me feel your Force, let me honor it and let me connect again with You. Let me awaken once more in the Cosmos Of unending awareness and the sublime Let me remember that life and death are Such small events, let me feel the living force Of the Universe -- the every evolving Forever again

I’m surprised I am the first to comment. This is worthy of high praise. You connect us to your anguish and hope in the most beautiful way. Hugs Rick.

thank you I always feel good when there is a comment from you, since I know the high quality of your work. Mine works through and shares some of life's difficulties and usually free verse, but I learn and enjoy the quality of your poetry. Take care.
