That Was Then and This Is Now

Then A domestic drudge, Pam had cooked countless meals She laundered his clothes and hung his shirts just right He walked ahead as Pam remained at his heels From his torment she cringed, cowering in fright As her health suffered, he quickly turned away When he threatened to leave, Pam begged him to stay Her confidence shot, self image destroyed She craved companionship to fill a sad void Now Her “strut’s” returned; Pam no longer lags behind Keeping pace with companions, equality Mental health’s improved; she clearly speaks her mind Sometime’s even enjoying frivolity Pam’s image is not now maligned before friends To a callous critic, she makes no amends Her canvas now fresh, the brush is in Pam’s hands Creative efforts don’t respond to demands *January 21, 2019 For Silent One’s “That Was Then and This Is Now” contest

The two faces of life, love how you delve in to personalities, Carolyn...In fact the poem says so much more, than the words one reads..love this..

I love the choice of theme and the vivid contrast between the first and second stanzas, Carolyn. Starting afresh is not easy, but once the decision is made, a person surely gets a new lease of life! In my eyes, deserving of a top win. Hugs // paul

you were so smart to set it up like this: showing her past and then the wonderfully changed present. Just exactly what I think Silent One had in mind for his contest.

I like the transformation you depicted..so alone and in pain then..so confident and able now. This informs of many lives..so much meaning in your story. All the best to you, Carolyn.

Hi Carolyn, great entry for the contest. Reads like a winner to me. Contrasting stanza's that truly sing to me. The first brings on the sadness then the second brings on the joy. Way to go Pam. I hate to see women. It is such a joy to see the change in Pam. No woman should be subserviant to any man. A strong read. Reads like a winners list entry to me. Have a wonderful Wednesday. Hugs....Mike. XX
