That Was Then and This Is Now
Then A domestic drudge, Pam had cooked countless meals She laundered his clothes and hung his shirts just right He walked ahead as Pam remained at his heels From his torment she cringed, cowering in fright As her health suffered, he quickly turned away When he threatened to leave, Pam begged him to stay Her confidence shot, self image destroyed She craved companionship to fill a sad void Now Her “strut’s” returned; Pam no longer lags behind Keeping pace with companions, equality Mental health’s improved; she clearly speaks her mind Sometime’s even enjoying frivolity Pam’s image is not now maligned before friends To a callous critic, she makes no amends Her canvas now fresh, the brush is in Pam’s hands Creative efforts don’t respond to demands *January 21, 2019 For Silent One’s “That Was Then and This Is Now” contest
