Tentative Dancer

Do I choose to join, this Poetic Dance
To reveal my soul, to take this chance
I am left to wonder, who will care
If my life is charmed, or full of despair

I release my emotions, to the page
The good the sad, the parts with rage
The pen gets started, revealing each part
A stitched together, healed broken heart

Like many a writer, I am a bleeder
Revealing my secrets, to you the reader
My only hope, is that you have time
To see yourself, in the words I rhyme

Because without you, there is no dance
You are the reason, I take this chance
A dance with a stranger, one two three
Perhaps at the end, you will know me

The very first Poem I posted to the soup.

Richard, just fun to look back more than a decade. It was obvious to many that you are a talented poet and willing to share your thoughts. Who could ask for anything more? I guess that makes you a gentleman and a scholar! Smiles!!

And a humdinger of a poem it is, Richard. I like to go back and see where a poet started here on Poetry Soup. I see you started running full speed. I feel blessed to have found you and your mindful poetry, my friend. I'll eventually read all you've written, it may take a while, but I'm only going on 79; I got another 30-40 years. I can do it! lol Have a great weekend! Bill

I remember reading this when I first joined.. I'm sure you did it for a contest or held a contest about it... How we change as poets over time, however, your talent is evident in this write.. How you joined the poetic dance and have left so many in a trance..

It's nice to visit where it all began for you Richard and what a first poem this is! The wondering of what it will be like, the uncertainty, expressed so wonderfully. I am so glad to have crossed paths with you, you are a tremendous talent and more importantly, a very fine man with a wonderful, gracious heart.:-) May you dance forever. many blessings to you, lynn

I took the time to visit your very first poem here. It's so relatable. To whom do you bare your soul, will anyone read it, what will they say? Is it too much, too little, need I be proud or embarrassed :)

Shall we begin? I felt the breeze that you blew my way With colourful leaves you wanted me to play I couldn't see the beauty I was lost in yesterday The summer that had passed I wanted it to stay

I do enjoy dancing, thanks for reading my first one. I was a teenager at the tale end of Disco. I'm a Bob Marley fan myself. Also like Genisis. Some of the oldies like Marvin Gaye and Dr Hook are also on my favorite list.

Hi, Richard! Good day! I haven't swung by your page in a VERY long time and I can't remember if I ever left comments on your poems. I saw you leave your kind words in some of mine and I think I went on hiatus. I'll review your work starting from the first post. You are a very accomplished poet and your poetic structure here says a lot about what you're capable of. The artistry, imagery and passion are timeless and I believe I'll also learn a lot from your pieces as I progress into reading more.
