Ten Reflections
1. With things we cannot change,
it is better to give the appearance of trying;
for even the smallest effort instills hope.
2. Having children has never seemed
a great accomplishment.
Even the lowest forms of life
produce their own with no thought at all.
3. The love of knowledge,
like fine wine,
is an acquired taste.
Let others drink water.
4. A wine of great age and character
may, in fact, surpass
those humans claiming to have
similar credentials.
5. Even the closest friend is
at times a hindrance to one’s peace.
6. Truth or Beauty – which do you prefer?
I prefer Beauty, for Truth
is never what it claims to be,
whereas Beauty is always true to itself –
and to him that beholds it.
7. Don’t look for miracles; the lazy do that.
If you want something,
work at getting it,
and experience the blessing.
8. Avoid platitudes –
unless you enjoy stale sentiments.
9. Kindness is like a hand
reaching out to comfort those in need;
but many refuse to be touched by it.
10. Pity him who says
earthly beauty is transcendent.
That man is blind.
Transcendent beauty
is only for angels.
