Teacher's Pet
It stood watching me in my youth
Patiently – without judgement
Smiling, nodding occasionally
Stifling a gentle laughter
Later it would grimace
Cover its eyes
But never turn away
Other times it would challenge me
To challenge myself
Allow me the vision to see
Become aware
Of my unwariness
I cursed it
For my pain
Accused it of having an agenda
That excluded me
Leaving me to my own devices
Time, that tepid terror,
Would intervene
With a bit of pain
Dip me in a cauldron of chaos
Reminding me
That I am only a character
In Life’s book
Writing my own chapter
((to be continued))
