Talks Too Much

'Tis a faux pas in American history A blob of dark ink on an exquisite painting There is no mystery A time with blood and fears reigning This disparity caused a Civil War When avarice possessed no humanity Some realizing the aberration must be no more A great President chose to erase this wretched vanity Human beings, toiled in chains Families ripped apart to not a care Freedom seekers violated, enduring intense pain Yet these new American's clung to hope and prayer. Many lives were lost- at great cost This exquisite painting began again The idea of slavery tossed The artist painted over this shame Erased but not forgotten- triumph not lost. A. Green

What a wonderful subject you chose for this erasure task. A war to be proud of unlike some of our modern ones. Love, Joyce

Great approach to the contest, Amy. Slavery has been erased, but the harm it did to our country will never be forgotten. Awesome perspective and a compelling poem. Love, Carolyn
