Image result for sweet lies

'I love you' moistens on your lips I watch it, breathless, as it drips coating, sweet, my foolish heart now hopeless in its guileful grips once I trilled that phrase to you so sweetened it was mostly true yet now there's bitter aftertaste that sourly whispers chilled adieu how often have I played the game and uttered myths, the very same fomenting, then, those like replies that light the apt and artful flame? I feign to count them in my head those subtle stories told, instead of placing faith for righteous love and by that honest heart, be led so now the gambol's back to me to deal through cold inclemency its keening card, the last guffaw and not waste efforts on a plea you drizzle damp, the lie again the ruin of much stronger men I swallow thus the poison mine to tend my heart its last amen. ~ 1st Place ~ in the "Love Poem" Poetry Contest, Heidi Sands, Judge & Sponsor.

That's very kind of you, Susan, I'm so pleased you enjoyed it! I LOVE Rubaiyats - one of my favorite forms, as it has exquisite rhythm, (and I am a musician), and one of my favorite childhood poems is one. I hope you will become as fond of the form as I am! Blessings, friend! :-) <3

HI Gregory. I wanted you to know that I think this is a great poem and I just love the use of "ye old English".

Your English may be "current" in your eyes but I certainly haven't heard anyone speak (or write) the way you do. Your writing is so artfully composed that it's a pleasure to read. Carole

Thanks, Carole, (I think some of your comment disappeared?), I appreciate that. I think all my English is current, though. ;-) Blessings.

And the same to you, my friend - really pleased you liked this one! I was a bit of a player in my younger days, but karma always comes back around, and it doesn't taste quite as sweet as when we're the ones serving it up, lol. Wisdom? It rarely comes without a price, haha! All the best, Dear Poet! :-)

Gregory, I have read many of your poems and have concluded through their underlying threads you and I may have left similar footprints that may or may not have been evidence of youthful exuberance

I have gotten the same feeling reading yours, Frederic - some might call us scoundrels, (in our younger days), but I kind of like that word, lol. I had a very strong compulsion when I was young to "experience" every type of beautiful or exotic woman I could, and I did so with little regard to anything but my own libido.

Yes, I was a cad, but it was those years of experimentation that taught me just how much better and more rewarding "making love" is over having "sex" ... there is no comparison, and I could not go back to the other if I tried. Live and learn ... though I DID have fun learning. ;-) Blessings, My Brother!

You are very sweet, Judy, and I so appreciate it - this one flowed so easily, and for some reason got into my heart. Some poems you just like more than others, even though you can't always get WHY - this was one of those for me - I love it! (I can't say that about much that I do, lol). Blessings, Friend! :-) <3
