Suspended Above

on empty limbs the raven sits watching as the leaves fly by on the wings of winds sorrows of yesterday tossed about then grounded the vultures above encircling me through ashen skies as if i am their prey today my thoughts swaying like the bough of trees then snapping back to reality i'm not ready to surrender this journey of life regardless of the shackles that weigh me down i watch as they scatter in darker corners as dawn breaks across the seams of a new day i smile even if in uncertainty

This poem reminds me of Hitchcock's movie The Birds and of Poe's Raven. Unsure why, but ravens and crows lend themselves well to poems, as we can see when we read this.

Thank you Caren...we have ravens, crows, vultures, hawks, eagles, falcons... the skies are never empty especially on our windy days... hugs

In times of sorrow... Darkness covers all... And the weight of heavy hearts... Outweighs the universe and stars... Which glisten like falling tears... But then... Fearful shadows flee... Painful memories... Become thoughts of love... For hope arises with the dawn...

one can eventually push the darkness away after lingering beneath it's clouds for a bit... :)

Wandered in your thoughts and found a smile in the end--lovely poem, as always, Sandy.

As long as you are smiling, that's a start and as long as you keep smiling that uncertainty will eventually join the ravens and the vultures on a different tree. Beautifully written my friend.

Ravens are one of the cleverest species of birds, but they are vindictive, their vindictiveness can go forward two generations - glad they scattered into darker corners as the dawn broke - awesome write Sandra. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.
