Summer's Menagerie
As a dying sun sets,
mosquitoes start to thirst.
And hungry females swarm,
vying for who'll bite first.
Twilight highlights fireflies;
as they flash in the night.
And the moths court fire's flame,
enamored with its light.
Silence is broken by
a cricket's eerie shrill.
And a cicada's chirp;
haunts the night like a chill.
As Dawn breaks, Sol rises;
flooding the sky with light.
And butterflies flutter
to every bloom in sight.
The ants begin to march,
finding new trails to scout.
And the grasshoppers stir,
jumping wildly about.
Summer's menagerie
is neither good nor bad.
But, they live amongst us,
and I, for one, am glad.
