Summer of '70
School was out for the summer,
and the summer heat was beaming.
The children were playing, getting wet
and cool by the blasting fire hydrants.
Even in a thriving metropolis such as Chicago,
'The innocence' was dropping like rain on the pavement
in the summer of 70.
In spite of a few negative experiences in The Windy City,
it's hard to compete with The Brookfield Zoo, The Museum
of Science and Industry, or The Buckingham Fountain.
All things being equal, from my perspective, the atmosphere was innocent and tame.
Perhaps it was me, 'walking on cloud 9' or 'hooked on a feeling'. Or was it both, because I had just met a girl in the summer of '70
who swept me off my feet? That explains why I was on a cloud?
It must have been in July of '70 when I first met her
and on June 17, 1972, we said, "I do". I tell you,
those two words still ring strong and true, as we
anticipate celebrating 50 years of marriage
in the summer 0f 2022.
