Summer Garden In Kansas
Day opened up like a teenage flower
My marigolds were a beautiful sight
Looked for a sign of a possible shower
Clouds looked pessimistic in daybreak light
I watered pink roses; they stood up straight.
Geraniums looked amazingly bright.
Red hollyhocks waved from the garden gate
Petticoats dancing merrily around
A warm Kansas day was probably our fate
Carrots were popping right out of the ground
Green beans and peas ready to harvest too
A prettier garden could not be found
I thought this was a most gentle bower
With this beauty it’s hard to be dour
