Suck It

It brings back memories times of innocence a relevance when air was free to breathe and life held no promises to pain I stare at the glimmers of hope watering down in anticipation crisp crackles slowly turning between coarse sun worshiped fingers inviting free from her outer coverings I roll my tongue around the hardened mound ecstacy exploded into each crevice delved upon my mouth I smack my gums and look out as my mind wanders to where life all began

When I was in the salad days of my youth, in country Queensland, Australia, interior Qld, west, where the heat reached soaring temperatures, and we knew nothing of sunscreen or hats, and were made to stand on a school parade ground for an hour in the middle of a searing Summer's Day enforced to stand to attention without fainting from heatstroke and listen to the droning Headmaster who looked like Nosferatu, by the name of Krautz, the best relief when the bell rang and we were released from class, was sucking on a Sunny Boy, a cool numbing to the lips 'til they were blue, frosty Sunny Boy.
