* To all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 *
azure ...
sublime and cloudless and bright
I watched the birds
the strange, colorful birds
flitting in the sun of
a perfect, pristine morning
taking to the sky in flight -
soaring, drifting, falling, falling ... falling
odd, they had no feathers
no wings to press against that
glorious September air
but beautiful in their way
in their deadly, dancing descent
until the screams
were close enough to hear
and the sickening thud
of flesh ...
meeting pavement.
