Stop

You can’t want it More than they do Stop meddling You’re not helping When they clearly Don’t want your help I understand It’s inconceivable That they refuse To be as happy as you It’s one of life’s mysteries How some would rather Wallow in their misery Stop meddling You can’t want it More than they do AP: Honorable Mention 2020 Posted on February 22, 2019

I used to know a 99 year old lady who spent the last 40 years of her life, referring to her apartment as a "prison" because she never left it. She'd lost a daughter and just couldn't get over it; so her answer to the problem was to imprison herself at home and mourn the loss the rest of her days. She died at age 100; still mourning. I don't understand it at all; how could she not try to move on? Your poem reminded me of her.

Wow. We keep hoping something will click and kickstart their love for life but unfortunately sometimes it never happens. Sad.

The most difficult time "rescuers" have is the time they know they must "let go, let God," but when it comes, it is usually a relief.

It is always difficult seeing someone not being as happy as we think they should be.

Strangely enough this poem reminds me of my mother. She was from Kentucky and she had a saying for nosey people. For example, I would say, "what is that mom?" and she would always say, "Its a binder to catch nosey meddlers" Don't ask me what binder means it came out from the heart of Appalachia . Thanks for the memory.
