Staring Into Different Spaces

The embers flash like lightening strikes Ash floats weightlessly Flames dance and caress Smoke teases your lungs There's longing in the flames Safely stowed Posing no threat Crackling Tomorrow's charcoal To sully your fingers I stared so hard at those flames Looking for answers, fairies, anything But I couldn't interpret what I saw The colours of blue and orange The diminishing fuel Lit embers that float away with messages Extinguished before they get far The answers are there In the fire pit But not for me I don't know the question Or the code Just dirty fingers To draw smudged pictures That disappear In the rain

You're very good at creating a mood, usually a somber or melancholy one. We won't find any answers in nature to our existential questions. But we can find a measure of tranquility, even in a flickering flame
