Standing Back
No one sees the lack of colors,
Or the whiteness in the room.
The colors serve food,
Clean the mess,
Set up our beds.
Smiling all the while,
Offering more as we step through the door.
Saying," Can I do anymore?"
We give polite reply,
Never looking colors in the eye.
We miss what is before us,
And the opposite is true.
Colors watch the whiteness,
That is what we are taught to do.
Not to close,
Not too far.
Near enough to catch a glance,
But far enough to walk away.
In case the whiteness comes through,
Arrogance,
Rudeness,
Abuse to name a few.
Fighting off the whiteness,
With a language all our own,
Speaking to others,
So, we are not alone.
