Went back to the house of my childhood,
now abandoned!
The rusty gate creaked open…
found the once-cherished garden uncared for..
tall trees have grown taller,
bushes have spread with no control,
no flowers in sight -
dahlias, and jinias, chrysanthemums!
The swing is broken, tilting to one side!
I decided to enter the house,
Memory of a sweet past crippled my senses!
The dusty staircase appeared in my view...
an excellent structure made of Mahogany!
My father chose the wood, paid more than he could afford!
Probably he thought his family would live in this house for ever!
No, that didn’t happen. One grim day,
He had a heart-attack, he didn’t come back home!
children who were often seen
running up and down the staircase,
were taken care of by the relatives,
and moved to the city,
They did not come back!
Staircase remained a numb witness of the calamity!
Notes: Mahogany is considered one of the most luxurious and beautiful woods in the world, and because of that, it tends to cost more money than other woods like oak or pine.
