St George and the Dragon

In Silene there he once came and by the water met a dame "oh please leave" she softly said "or you like me will soon be dead." "Alas poor dear" he bravely vowed "have no fear" he gently bowed, "I'll protect you, yes indeed" and jumped upon his loyal steed. From the lake there did arise, right before poor Georges eyes, a serpent-dragon smooth and sleek, oozing forth a deathly reek. As the dragon did advance, he lifted high his pointed lance, he pierced the dragons scaly hide, a gaping wound on its right side. The princess came then, girdle braced, muzzled the beast and then they raced, to the village with dragon abind, trailing weakly from behind. The Townsfolk they did back away, fearful of this Knight's display, until George raised olde Ascalon, the Dragon's head he beat upon. With one foul swoop the deadly blade, slew the creature and there it laid, a hero George will always stay, so have a great St. Georges Day.
