Split Wide Open

A chance encounter soon turned to love
Blossoming alike a flowering spring
That undulates moods of prairies green
Oscillating rhythms of tender winds
Amid trees-abloom, swaying revelry
And streams rushing to greet the sea.

They were blessed to find each other
Having just exited from a harsh winter
Of failed marriages and lovelorn yore
That gelid memories still fetch to fore
Even when ruminating of sunny shores.

Yet, they found love, resonating true
In lure of romance where passions woo
Growing with phases of waxing moon
Eager to find the words to their song
And vows of forever that last lifelong.

Alas! their journey faced fierce storms
When candles of love flickered in hearts
And blooms of today withered in past
As perturbed souls began drifting apart
Igniting a brawl between then and now.

The waxing moon soon started to wane
When gelid winter raised its ugly head,
And the thawed landscape froze again,
As welcome ceded, goodbyes reigned,
And wounds split-open ached of pain;

For love-song never found its rhythm
And tale of two-souls remained unwritten
As laments decried the split wide-open.

Sadly this relationship did not survive. A reality that is real and is found to often in life. I think most of us have experienced what your words have conveyed my friend. I always love your words Vijay, which you pick and use. They are well thought and reflect a level of Poetry that reflects intelligence, and uniqueness. Something very difficult to achieve. Another exceptional winning poem by you, God bless you...

Vijayji, what a beautiful imagination for the title you chose... the way your creative pen unfolds the story of two souls that suffer pangs of separation even though they felt the spring of love blossoming in their lives in the beginning... As always, such beautiful imagery and I loved the "love growing with phases of waxing moon"... Best wishes in the contest... God bless.. ~ Ani

Vijay, your moving, descriptive poem tells the story of many who simply couldn't overcome the pitfalls of the past--and fall into them again! The divorce rate for second and third marriages is HIGH. Janice

"For love-song never found its rhythm And tale of two-souls remained unwritten'"- Thus ended their sad tale of love with the split in their relationship suddenly growing wider. Though they had come out victorious from their broken marriages and had hoped that there was going to be a fresh turn to their lives, all their hopes were shattered in time. In your unique flawless style, you have presented this heart wrenching story in the most impressive way..... Vijay. All the Best dear friend.

This is another brilliant work of writing dear Vijay; your diction is impeccable, and your use of metaphors is superb. Even if it doesn't work out in the end, what matters most is keeping the heart open to love and providing for others. It can feel like those scars will never go away, and I hope that's just the way fiction works and not a judgment on the authenticity of your prose. Though I loved reading your poem, my dearest friend.

Excellent entry for the contest, Vijay. Well written and engaging. It doesn't always work out, the key is to be open to love and continue to offer it to others. Good luck in the contest my friend. Bill

When love fails us Vijay, that is what happens. We are split wide open. Those wounds never seem to quite heal at times, praying this is only fiction and a testament to your realistic poetry, gl in the contest, Smiles !

Fabulous truth, so poetically told. It is less finding someone right to love, and more being ready for love -- less baggage -- free to travel loves myriad paths of ups and downs -- but always ending the night in each other's arms. Your fine poem is subject for a book. That's what I like about excellent poetry, a lot more said in a relatively short space.

A profound analysis of relationships that are unable to see their bud love bloom. Powerful verses, sublime language, and rhythm. I much liked the story which, unfortunately, had not a glorious end, my dearest friend, Vijay! Blessings!
