Split Wide Open

“Love is a power so strong, yet if compressed without outlet, it is as good as stagnant waters"---by poet
As we roamed under the star spangled sky, Sharing many a trivial thought I failed to voice my clandestine whim Structured within my heart's inmost core When words got suddenly broken up With a lump forming in my throat I failed to convey what I meant In a language explicit for you to grasp Gazing at each other, as we stood Without uttering a word aloud, never making explicit My thoughts with inhibitions subduing me, You failed to notice my love lit eyes Sadly glistening with tears, about to shed Sad, my thoughts scattered like dead leaves Abandoned by the trees in harsh autumn wind Whirling down directionless and fated to rot At the end of a pleasant united jaunt When forced to take our own solitary paths With life’s journey diverging in opposite tracks, We failed to say even a parting word As a gesture of courtesy, due for both Alas, when the past has dwindled slowly away We remain in our own cloistered cells Failing to forget what has transpired With wounds bleeding all through time Whenever I think of our love, that got thus fused Standing speechless and tongue tied every time I force a wistful glow, wondering what might have been If you could see my heart split wide open And known my true feelings which I could never once divulge ___________________________________________ June. 6.2022 ~Placed First~ This or That, Vol. 12 Poetry Contest Subject Chosen- Split Wide Open Sponsored by Edward Ibeh

I suffered inside feeling unloved because they didn't even know I loved them. It carried over into adulthood until I overcame my fear of rejection. Thank God. "All things work together for good to those that love the lord and are called unto his service." Blessings, Bill

I can understand your feelings. I have always felt that you love your fellow beings and respect women in general. At times we fail to open up and others fail to understand what is inside. Probably you must have been shy and reticent. But Thank God, as you grew up, you got over that feeling of being unloved. Yes,"All things work together for good to those that love the lord and are called unto his service." Thanks a lot Bill for your beautiful and touching comment.

Thank you, Valsa, for sharing such a heart retching love poem with us. The unknowing of the paths not taken or the words unspoken are the cruelest memories we retain. Taught by a loving mother and father to love all women as blessings from God, given to man as helpers to comfort in loneliness; I was often infatuated and felt love for every girl in my classes. I wanted them all to know how thankful I was for them and the love and admiration I had for them. I was unable to voice my feelings.

This is incredibly real; such an honest feeling "Whenever I think of our love, which got thus fused Standing speechless and tongue tied every time I force a wistful glow, wondering what might have been"

What if there's a second chance? If we can say a proper goodbye? Life sadly doesn't give that opportunity. I just loved the intensity of every line in the poem. Amazingly penned.

Valsa perhaps a great love was on the horizon but your love you had later was the one that was the very foundation of your life and trust. Elias and I, each married, each one with a son like your little boy who was attacked by a raven, both of us unhappy and divorced, but we always loved each other, he phoned me 21 years ago, we were married 6 .months later. Ours was a true destiny. Brilliant poetry my friend. Hugs and blessings, jennifer.

A grand poem, Valsa! Your quote impeccable! Love the imagery: As we roamed under the star spangled sky, Each time my thoughts scattered like dead leaves Abandoned by trees in the harsh autumn wind…

Yes, we do not know what life has in store for us. But one thing is sure.... as we age, it grows increasingly difficult. Accepting the inevitable is all we can do. Thanks a lot dear Victor.

Thanks a lot Tom for your kind words. I must say you chose even a better option and wrote a wonderful poem on "brace the impact" that I enjoyed much....
