Oh, Maple tree- planted, nursed as
as a tiny sapling fifty years ago,
you stood as a faithful guardian
to shelter our front yard;
while we matured, you did so too.
Today, old treasured Maple tree-
as a warrior, you proudly stand,
with your solid trunk deeply gouged
by fierce tornado winds-
yet, your strong roots still hold on.
A survivor's beauty you now show.
Though broken beyond repair-
we chose not to cut you down-
you are standing tall, enduring-
blooming still on our front lawn.
Dear battered warrior-
you served us well for many years.
But, now we bow to you;
as your new artistic presence
all the greater warms our hearts.
