Spirits In Mid-Day
On a mid-day in September
'Bout a minute just past three
I had seen a cardinal in a rose bush
And I'm sure that he'd seen me
'Cause when I stood there observing him
Like a treasured holy grail
He looked at me and tweeted twice
And then he shook his tail
A single reddish-yellow rose
No others have I seen
Just the one with a blue-like ring
With speckled spots of green
Caught- there in a moment
Thought- 'bout what someone said
That when you see a cardinal
It's a messenger from the dead
We watched each other's eyes; in trance
As time kept frozen still
Then, when I saw him fly away
It left me with a chill
