Speechless Part 3

* I found a way to gracefully depart for I could not respond to her request. I held my breath and waited for my heart to once again start beating in my chest. And as I coaxed my senses to comply and fumbled for the words I sought to say, I found an ounce of courage to reply, but not before she kindly walked away. I closed my eyes and rummaged for a scheme to tame the mood and thwart such nonchalance. But words had fled, and all seemed just a dream, and once again I floundered in response. This tacit tongue was destined to ignore each happenstance I recklessly explore. * Each happenstance I recklessly explore are bare essentials to the paradigm; When e'er true love comes knocking at your door, you'd best be swift to answer it in time. I vowed to take a chance with this design and anchored my resolve to win the day. Our hearts and souls were destined to entwine for nothing now was standing in my way. But as I sat and squandered such a scheme, inside the door, a gentleman appeared. She turned to him, and in my muted dream, the essence of her light thus disappeared. Her radiance had faded to obscure. Some hearts align, one never can be sure. * Some hearts align, one never can be sure. and now her love is but a memory. These silent dreams, so muddled and obscure, in consequence, were always meant to be. I’ll search no more for splendor in the morn and yield my days to solitude’s retreat. I’ll not profess disparagement nor scorn and thus negate the anguish of defeat. No unrequited love will I let taunt the tendrils of imaginary whim, for I'll recall those memories that daunt, reminding me when morning’s light fell dim. For such a fool as I, there is no cure, no sovereign love is destined to endure. * No sovereign love is destined to endure, as recompense, I’ll let my pain atone. These vain endeavors shall not reoccur for I will spend my empty days alone. I’ve found a place to charm the painter’s eye; this sidewalk berth along the corridor. For now, it’s on my canvas I'll supply impressions of the subjects I adore. But wait, I sense an essence o’er this place and feel a light out shine the summer sun. And there, adorned in radiance and grace, she passes by… Oh, This may be the one. The follies of the sun have left me blind as scented air aroused my misty mind. * As scented air aroused my misty mind illusions twisted aimlessly in vain. Within this haze appeared a light divine though in my world of dreams it seems insane. A single gaze and fate may yield to chance. The heart may fall in love unwillfully. In truth, some souls prefer a tryst romance. A feeble heart seeks vain fidelity. A soul is but a slave that serves the heart, but restless souls, they simply wish to soar. I found a way to gracefully depart each happenstance I recklessly explore. Some hearts align, one never can be sure, no sovereign love is destined to endure.

Bravo, Mark! A masterpiece! Thank you for bringing it back and sharing it with us again. All 3 parts are a Fav poem for me. You are the sonnet master, as evidenced by this beauty and your two books, “This War of Fathers” and “This War of Brothers.” I have both and are enjoying them immensely. Write on!

Dear Mark, as the sought-after-romantic-encounter burns in the wreckage of passion's flame I am caught up in the speaker's rueful plight. Amazing poetic moments overflow the grateful page in the exploration of this romantic obsession so beautifully and soulfully expressed in your triple crown of sonnets, each piece a gem! An elegant, exquisite parade of emotions and imagery cascade upon my heart's imagination as I savor each and every verse. Indeed, your poetic artistry soars above and beyond! A masterwork of magnificent sonnets from start to finish, my friend! Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Hi Mark, yes, I thought this felt familiar and I do remember "The Coffee Shop".. I'm so glad you decided to post this triple crown trio again.. it is a sumptuous set of sonnets. Though the last sonnet needs a tweak, it is a poet's delight indeed!

Thank you Susan. This was posted a few years back and Mark Toney asked about it recently. He had recognized that I had a spin-off of it…”The Coffee Shoppe”, that was entered in his Marathon. The final sonnet needs editing to correctly complete the Heroic Crown of Sonnets style - but its still fun to read…thanks again!
