Spark Through the Sunset
Her feet dangled down
Above the mud
Her body safe, sitting on the stone wall,
Waiting
She knew her daddy was going to come
He never said he would,
But she knew, she believed
And so she waited, knowingly
The sun set and rose
And still he had not come.
The birds flew across the muddy sky
But still she believed
There were no ifs
No hesitation
Whatever happened would be for the better.
And so she waited
Smiling under the dreary day
And singing with the tumble of the rain
He would come
She simply had to wait.
As the sun rose once more
Above the foggy ground
Exhausted and weak,
She heard a whistle, low and sweet
At this she jumped
And ran, smiling and laughing
Through the mud and muck
Not minding the dirt
the dusty air that whizzed by
There, then she ran into the arms
That waited for the right day to show up
Watching her waiting
Day and night
The arms that hugged her tight
Full of love and mercy
He kissed her gently on her head.
And began to walk her home
