Sounds From Childhood Past

a bouncing ball against a wall conkers bashed as Autumn falls the swish of a skipping rope: milk bottles clinking in a crate grate of chalk upon the slate the tinkle of five-stones on a roll: rattle of the tin-can tommy rasping squeak of a swing the bus stop bell request ring: voices chanting time-tables snap of a teacher cane the double hoot of the fast steam train:

Brian, yes: The sound of the milk bottles - (and then the sound of the milk float pulling away) :) There's a whole anthology of poems just waiting to be written about childhood sounds. Funny how sounds stay with us. Lovely write.

You just made me think that the other day I was thinking of writing the same thing, but didn't.. hear the wind it’s flowing past , rustling sound of the leaves. when birds musical sound tweet, twitter, cheep, the slashing sound of river water.. love it.

Loved this one Brian, took me right back, the cane didn't do any real harm, kept us on the straight and narrow. Sadly today there is no discipline in schools. Tom
