Luck of the Draw
At the coffee shop
Thumbing through a magazine
One photo catches my attention
A child’s tearful eyes
Reminding me how life is so unfair
Tragedy being humankind’s lottery
And there’s no questioning
The meaning of it all
Fighting feelings of helplessness
As a single salty tear falls
Into my five dollar cappuccino
