Sonnet On, We Poets and Our Poetry
Sonnet On, We Poets And Our Poetry
Poets, if they say they are alright are just lying
for far too oft we write just to keep from crying.
Crying in sorrow for this dark, red-bleeding world
whose banner is tragedy, flying high, unfurled!
And why not, are not our thoughts worthy to be read
should we remain silent, ignore evil instead?
Nay! Poetry also must send messages clear
we write, bowing to no man and face our great fear!
Last night, black-shadows woke me to torment my soul
defeat my spirit, destroy poet's heart their goal!
Nay! Such darkness shall never win, never succeed
for ink fills my veins, I shall write until I bleed!
Poets, we are far more than just blind, scampering mice
Need one say much more or repeat this poem thrice?
