A pondering upon the cycle of life, death and rebirth, or Nietzsche's Eternal Return

there will be a baby crying
in the next room, but not yet
people are still standing around
my bed and I'm still on my last breaths
they won't leave until I have gone
a brown leaf about to fall

I remember the white foam of waves
not rampaging bulls in Spanish streets
but subtle colourings of children's books
gently paging in rippling tides by bare feet
sand on toes in fizziness
those waves, they kept on repeating

some are probably praying
others counting along with the clock
they stand around my bed
some I want to leave, others I want to stay with
I've done the fighting, I've done the pleading
cue the baby in the next room

Well written thoughts on the life cycle, Clive. Your imagery and descriptive scenes were very lifelike. I could feel the acceptance of death in him. Sadness and a sense of release. Thanks for sharing your thoughts through your poetry, my friend. Happy New Year! Have a great 2024! Bill

This made my heart just heavy, as i can feel this what you’ve described. A person lying in death bed. And their thoughts at the end of the day especially those last lines hit so strong for me. What a soul stirring write this is. Gosh power of words, one can never know, maybe you dont realise but this one is so powerful! I dont believe in rebirth either but i think youve described that passing moment so well.. I wrote something similr long time ago but ofcourse mine was dark.pleasure readng this

Awesome existentialism, poetically speaking, though I don't believe in reincarnation. I like the middle stanza where you digress a bit to memory lane

Lovely writing, though - with all my heart (and I must say it) - I believe those who are saved by grace, through faith in Jesus, will enter into the kingdom of heaven, where God's throne holds the King Himself. God bless you with much love, Gina

This is a very deep and intriguing write.. Reflecting the way, cycle of life works in life, death and rebirth.. A very complex dynamic, you've presented here, when one person is on the edge of leaving this journey, having experiencing both bitter and sweet moments with different faces.. And on the other hand, a new bud is ready to be born.. Yet, there's a fathomless feeling, which indicates rebirth.. A creative one, truly, I loved reading this!
