I adore his portrait-
and I see his deep sadness
the the defiance in his dark eyes
and the pride dwelling in his peace
I view with emotion-
and great respect for the artist
for he has captured the essence
I feel a yearning in this native face
and I am enchanted and mesmerized
I could love this warrior-
and I would be quite devoted to him
for even now, I feel an attachment, respect
in life there could be desire, lust, and passion
oh, would this native warrior cherish me also
would we fill each other with amour and rapture
I find the painting tender-
and I appreciate the artistic style
delighted with the use of color to enhance
for the artist must have been quite passionate
and devoted to take the time to paint such beauty
on canvas for an Ojibwe girl like me to fall in love with
this raining day where I wander art dwelling loving what I find
