Song of the City

Light streaming down on the asphalt homeland The day is full of promise Sitting here in the local coffee spot I am surrounded by people with laptops But I am using the old fashioned way of writing this ode with a pen and paper It is the song of New York City Home to over eight million souls and many different ethnic groups comprise much of the Lower East Side Chinese, Orthodox Jews, Afro Americans, Puerto Ricans It is a fabled neighborhood where my grandparents came after leaving their European homes Now it is my home I have friends here - and possibly enemies So I take this time to reach out to you readers out there in the darkness Before nightfall on the LES I pen odes to this city Post them and hope readers come to understand this most urban of neighborhoods

Uh oh, this means I was wrong about your tanka being sarcastic. Please don't be mad with me, it did evoke feeling from me and that's what it's about, right? I hope you'll agree. This poem brings home your love of the city, a love that millions share now and have over time. You serve your city well with your emotional imagery. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

We need to understand our urban neighborhoods, learn to mesh with them but not lose our identity. I have enjoyed your poem this early morning. as I look out the window I see a bird flying on a high branch. It's calling to me. Life is the call of the wild, and we her seedling wilds. Have a peaceful day, keep sonaring with your magic pen.
