Somewhere Seeking
Staircase goes
around and around
and around;
upside-down;
somewhere seeking.
You can hear the rustle
of her hoop skirt —
the whirl and twirl,
loopity-loop,
lonesome swirl.
Her face streaked
with shadows,
whispering, wavering
like prison bars.
The whorl of
her brunette hair,
carelessly bouncing,
nearly catching
the undulating flame.
She couldn’t seem
to catch her breath,
wheezing, afraid.
Her feet dangling,
somewhere seeking;
upside-down.
Staircase goes around
and around and
around.
