Sometimes Late At Night

Sometimes late at night as I try desperately to fall asleep, three or four lines of a popular song repeat and repeat and repeat inside my mind. The lines of the song were so wonderful when I sang along with them while listening to the radio in my car earlier that day - so memorable. . . But when the lyrics to a catchy tune spin relentessly inside my mind, they become all that I want to forget sometimes late at night. Oct. 8, 2018 for the "Remembering What You Want To Forget Poetry Contest" of Kim Rodrigues

Songs will do that, putting us in both a great and awful place! Yours does both! There’s that poignant line...sometimes late at night. Congratulations on your third place win, Andrea!

Very clever observation, Andrea. Once a song gets "caught in your head," as Blanche DuBois conveyed, it can outlive its welcome. Enjoyed your poem! Best wishes in the contest. Hugs, Carolyn

Sorry about the duplication here. I sometimes have trouble with this.

It's true; then you may not hear them again for a decade or more and they're fresh and wonderful again. Great piece of poetry.

I can really relate to this Andrea. The song keeps running through my mind and I can't shut it up. So frustrating. This is a great entry. : )

Check out my latest on a similar topic. Songs can get caught in one's head - an not always when you want them to as you show in this stimulating piece. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

Hi Andrea, excellent poetry as usual. I wish you well in the contest. One can so easily visualize this poetic gem. Many of us have been there at one time or another. Sometimes I can sing the same line of a song, over and over in my mind as I lie, trying to sleep. I love the content of this write. Have a wonderful tuesday. Hugs....Mike. XX
