Keepsake
When you left home,
you gave back to me
the picture I’d given you for christmas
the one that I thought you would enjoy having
as a keepsake of you and me
It was the one of me with my arm around you
I was so proud of my fourteen year old boy
You said, “I don’t need this.”
Perhaps you meant nothing by it
but it broke my heart a little bit
