Edited and reposted, this is a poem in my "Little One" cyclus.

I wrap my arms around you My legs around you too I rest your head against me As close as you can be "Ahlam saida qalili" "Ahlam saida saghiri" "Sleep well, my little one" Today was full of sorrow There will be a tomorrow The sun will be here soon I whisper to the moon "Ahlam saida qalili" "Ahlam saida saghiri" "Sleep well, my little one" One night of dreamless pleasure No hurt, or fear, no pressure Tomorrow we disappear This is our last night here "Ahlam saida qalili" "Ahlam saida saghiri" "Sleep well, my little one" *** May 7, 2017 Copyright © Darren White

Yes, I wish I could too... But singing a lullaby, even under difficult circumstances, really works

Bonsoir Darren, it is a real treat to read such a beautiful lullaby written in both English and Arabic. Est-ce que 'qalili' et 'saphiri' est un peu la même chose que 'mon enfant' et 'mon petit'?:) Amitiés

Oui Anne-Marie, plus ou moins la même chose. Not completely, but close. It's hard to explain the difference.... Thank you :)

Lovely lullaby dear poet. A 7 I spent a day in an Arabic school when I was wee, I believe it has had the lasting affect of enabling me to wrap my tongue around otherwise difficult foreign pronounciations: ear tongue coordination ;)

Giggle! I was six. To this day I pride myself on making the effort to properly pronounce names otherwise anglicized, I hate my own name improperly pronounced ;)

This gives me the weirdest image in my mind, ma mo :) But yeah, Arabic has some nice tongue twisters, especially for languages that aren't equipped to produce them, like English, hahahahaha!

Thank you Richard. Both saghiri and qalili mean "my little one". Two words for more or less the same. Thanks for reading and enjoying my poem :)
