“God within me is the enjoyer of the aroma As also this dopamine boosting flavour I taste I surrender all pleasures to the dweller of my heart Breath by breath thus that my soul presence be chaste” Whether it's perked or left to drip I drink coffee after I quip, "Cool enough not to burn my lip." Ahh... that first sip Ahh... that first sip A spoon of sugar, splash of cream Aroma woke me from a dream From the cup rises vapor steam In sunlight's gleam In sunlight's gleam My eyes savor the morning scene More than the flavor of caffein I hear songbirds as they convene Their songs serene Their songs serene I'm content after yawns and sighs Enjoying a cup at sunrise As dawn chooses to colorize Aurora skies Aurora skies I recognize God's hand in this Reminding me not to dismiss These moments as if nature's kiss A time of bliss A time of bliss My cup and sunlight keep me warm Daybreak serves as a tranquil balm Reading scripture nurtures my calm A hallowed psalm A hallowed psalm

A FAV, A FAV. Lin. Beautifully written poem and the repeat phrase at the end of each verse was like whipped cream on top of hot chocolate. Your imagery brought us the sights and smells of the day. Hi Bill and thanks for liking this one with a double FAV. It's such a pleasure to share poetry with one who appreciates as much as you and Sara do. A great new year is my wish for both of you.

I love coffee at any time of day, but if I wasn’t allowed that morning cup… I’d stay in bed! Delightful poem, Lin. I’m sure you’ll be up there in the winners list. Terry

Hi Terry. I'm not really a big fan of coffee. A couple of mornings a week, maybe. Don't turn into a grumpy Gus without your morning coffee. LOL Thank you for liking this one.

such a smooth-flowing poem filled with joy. I love how you said, God within me is the enjoyer of the aroma. Those words spoke to me on a different level...hard to explain. I, too, am content after yawns and sighs...I especially liked your 'reading scripture nurtures my calm.' Great words, sincerely. I'm guessing that calm you experience brings creativity closer to you..??? have a great evening, Sara

Thanks, as always for your supportive comments, Sara. However, the first verse was written by Seeker and was required to be used in all entries. I love early mornings and find them conducive to ideas for poetry.
