Notes About The Poem

An example for the silence contest.  Aim is to write a poem without using a synonym of silence.

Premiere Contest WinnerSilence Personified

I am nature,
soul of a mountain,
buried under
a billion snowflakes.

I float like butterflies,
from petal to petal.
As cinereal clouds clear,
under a glistening sunrise,
I illuminate like a lustrous rainbow -
I am daylight.
I am a falling leaf, from the tallest tree. I am gravity, can you feel me? Can you hear the air you breathe?
I am oxygen.
I am the moon, followed by a galaxy of stars, I am the universe, lights that sparkle at night. I am Mona Lisa's smile, a photograph from the past, an unread book, a guitar without strings, a bird without a song, a blank song sheet -
I am regret.
I am darkness, a misplaced muse, the pause between words, the last kiss goodbye, the distance, the hunger -
I am suppressed emotions.
You see me in blood and tears. I have no echo. You can only hear me, when you care to listen.

Oh my, this is really a very deep and artistic poem dear Silent One.. I especially love how you've personified silence in different elements without any synonymous word being used, that's really creative.. Every line here brought a unique soothe and especially "buried under a billion snowflakes", "I am daylight", "I am Mona Lisa's smile,a photograph from the past", "You see me in blood and tears" Woww, this was so worthy of winning, heartiest congratulations on your beautiful placement :)

I like this silent contemplation, and the paradox of silence speaking. I especially like the darkness stanza, and silence being the pause between words, and the line, 'I have no echo'. To me, the pattering of alliterative moments is the light touch, weighted by the gravitas of repeated words and phrasing.

So deep I felt myself holding my breath the whole time. Not in anticipation but I really didn't want to break the silence... excellent writing

It would be a far better world if people did not need reasons, forethought and preparation, but were simply open to living. Great write my friend!
