Notes About The Poem

for the contest " silence listens" sponsored by Craig Cornish

Silence Listens

Silence listens to tremors of twilight,
spilled across shorelines bathed in lilac,
awaiting the soft sinking of the sun ~
soaked in storms of heavy heartbeats,
a Braille of dreams, a touch of secrets,
like the wind that feels and follows,
the cracks within the crevices of the moon ~
a ballerina lost in the music of grief.
Perhaps lips of horizon could taste,
        savor, and drink in stillness,
when the world ceases to cherish kindness,
love that rests in the lungs of the skyline,
where sighs of stars reveal the veiled glow~
unspoken reasons written in quiescence...

But can the dusk trace the weight of trying?
This mind is a nightingale,
        featherless ... forever restless,
held by ripples between the birth of hope ~
the shattering of nightfalls ~
                swathed in numbness…

No matter what I say, I cannot give justice to this masterpiece. My perception of silence will never be the same. Congratulations Ink. A Fave for me to read for years and years to come. Stay shining. ^___^ JCB

This poem is so arresting with powerful metaphors and alliterations and a wonderful opening and closing! You are indeed the Empress of Poetry... a title which many who have read your poems will definitely confer on you. "a ballerina lost in the music of grief." This line pulls hard at my heart strings! "This mind is a nightingale, featherless ... forever restless, held by ripples between the birth of hope ~ the shattering of nightfalls ~ swathed in numbness…" Though many feel that they are confined in cages with folded wings unable to fly, who can express it so poignantly and powerfully as you have done! Into my FAVE.

Dear Inky,,your words carry a deep sensitivity—a Braille of dreams, a touch of secrets—that feels like the tender brush of memory across old wounds. And that line "a ballerina lost in the music of grief"—it’s haunting. You’ve captured something that many feel but can’t articulate: that liminal space between yearning and surrender, stillness and chaos. Yes… the dusk may not always trace the weight of trying, but your poem does. It gives voice to the quiet struggle, to the featherless nightingale inside all of us. All the best in the contest...Hugs

Wow! This is such a soul-moving and deeply resonating poem, my dear Ink! I could relate to every line you've so meticulously woven here... sometimes, silence can speak louder than words and leave an unfathomable legacy behind... within silence, indeed, swirls a braille of dreams, understandable only by those hearts who wish to taste the sparks of serenity in it. I especially love how beautifully you've written "Perhaps lips of horizon could taste, savor, and drink in stillness" and "But can the dusk trace the weight of trying? This mind is a nightingale, featherless ... forever restless," Sigh, so much you've conveyed in these thought-provoking and poignant words! As always, your way of delivering emotions in such an ingenious and seamless manner really spellbinds my heart! Absolutely love this!! Sending many best wishes for the contest, keep writing and shining always ~

Written as if an ode to Swan Lake, Ink... but there are more joyful dances in life when silence becomes a bore, and frivolity finds happiness instead of shattering in silent nightfall or swaddled in numbness when there's nothing left to be felt. I'm back and ready to write.

Your words echo the dusk carrying echoes of longing, weight, and wonder. Your imagery is marvellous though it also portrays sorrow. There is a cadence and flow in your poem. The metaphor of a featherless nightingale, restless and held between hope and shattering, lingers like an unanswered sigh. Your poetry stirs the quiet spaces of thought, where silence isn’t empty but full of unspoken truths. A beautiful piece.

It’s so good to see you back here, sis, after a hiatus. Your piece is achingly beautiful in a way only you can achieve and steeped in introspection and soul. Lines like “a ballerina lost in the music of grief” and “this mind is a nightingale, featherless... forever restless” left me in awe. The metaphor “lips of horizon could taste, savor, and drink in stillness” is stunning and so unique and vivid. Wishing you all the best in the contest
