They say stillness is absence, an empty space between worth noting,
but I have heard its melodies in the pre-dawn chapel where stillness reigned
and still the walls exhaled calm.

I have found stillness and not loneliness---
but in two hands clutching without speaking,
the heart knowing inside out
language would only raze.

Silence is like sunlight before it shines,
the tranquility after I sleep and
the reluctance before "I forgive you",
It grips what chaos cannot express--admiration, agony, dread.

Even when grieving and when at a loss for words,
calmness is at hand and says it all.
So let the world fill with echoes.
With clamor and vivid proclamations.

I will still turn up beauty.
In the lull between storms,
In the hush between instinct and doubt
In the sacred calmness, that hark,
Not to respond, but to understand.

I was captivated by the examples you've used of when and where silence is beautiful to you. While most i think would agree there are enough people out there who can't fathom a second without noise, to allow that it does follow the directions. Thank you so much for sharing this@<3xi

Thank you. Silence really does have its own beauty and rhythm, even if many can’t imagine a moment without noise. I appreciate your kind words!

This poem is beautiful, Rowena, and so is silence! You manage to project the emotions that you feel when listening to the sound/s of silence, and the last stanza is a most fitting ending. ~ Best regards // paul

Be still, and know God. In the silence, all is still...now I know the meaning of a word drop, and the ripple voice of eternal sea. For myself, I find it is always helpful to surround myself with divine light, fill myself with divine presence, before allowing for total silence of the cosmic form. You get a FAV from me! Your poem says it all. Beautiful!

Aww, thank you! I love how you put that — “ripple voice of eternal sea” is just beautiful. Totally agree about surrounding ourselves with divine light first. Really appreciate the FAV!

I'm deeply moved by this poem. Two reasons. 1) I'm only into the rhyme format of poetry yesterday this one impressed me. 2) It carries a title close to one that I wrote, so I had to scope it out. It almost carries the same idea. Wow... • Enjoyable • Perfectly Penned • Impressive • Creative • That Part • Pure Truth • Serious Synesthesia • Healing • Facts
