Show No Fear
my breathing quickens
waking me with a start
I bump into a long fat slimy thing
a tongue?
I reach around and discover it is much larger
in daylight, scary.
in the dark, shocking.
bumpy, and unbelievably cold and rugged
what are you doing up here? I ask Herman
my pet alligator who lives in the back room
I heard a noise, he says. I was scared.
I turn and see his gleaming white teeth in the dark.
They shine like a neon moon.
Suddenly I feel a bit scared myself.
Show no fear
A voice warns me
Too late….
