Shouldnt Have Gotten

We shouldn’t have gotten a shed For I’m sure you can guess where it’s led - Saving things we don’t need; With it gone, guaranteed, We’d throw things in the garbage instead. Now the mice have a place they can hide When it’s freezing or raining outside. They leave droppings behind Which, of course, I will find And I can’t seem to take it in stride. I should simply just clean the shed out For there isn’t the tiniest doubt That the things I have saved Make me look quite depraved, Which confirms what this poem is about. *PoetrySoup would not let me include the apostrophe in the word Shouldn’t!

I cannot take mice droppings "in stride" either! This was a delight to read!

You could have avoided the apostrophe with, "Shed Shed" but naught to worry as they tend to blow away . . . . Aloha!

you're not alone in the "stuff syndrome", ilene! just as nature abhors a vacuum, homeowners abhor and empty shed (or attic, or closet, or basement....) another great write

Just bought a new shed and was glad to see the back of the old one, gave me a chance to have a clear out. Cant believe I hoarded so much crap. Tom

Another exceptional write, Ilene. Yes, sheds become a catch-all and collect-all, and seldom carry out the purpose for which they were intended.

Love the jaunty rhythms in these limericks, Ilene, and the truth they hold about sheds, garages, closets and attics!A few years ago I cleaned out my apartment of dishware, books, shoes (never worn), and other dispensable things. My apologies for my delay in responding to your wonderful poetry but health issues only worsen. /Maurice
