'should Have - Could Have'
when thoughts drift away
to things that should have been
that you wished could have been
all the exit signs marked
you wish your feet would just move
so you won't feel like you didn't try
but in the back of your mind,
you know you did
your heart's echo is sometimes so piercing
you struggle to actually go
even though you know it's not safe
to cling to that thing that should have been
that thing you wished could have been
