How enchantment marked a pageant
as the freewheel of shooting stars burst,
my young heart awed by glimmers
traveling at the speed of haloed light--
while I recalled one pure moment a long time ago.
How star-beams whisked into the crystal sky
reeling pivoting away... all those lucent
impressions kept when unusual bands
awakened my growing curiosity.
At age nine, Dad carried me in a boat
across velveteen, midnight hours --
this matchless spectacle of a display
changed my view of this universe's breadth
kindling a passion for astral space outside myself
recalling how late evening
...never in years forgotten!
