Listen to poem:
Shoe Laces And I
Amidst my elementary schooled years,
Occasioned a one-timed event for me,
An age calls upon myself and my peers,
Of Hawaiian descent set by decree.
We were to attend a week-long event,
Slipper years ended with my first laced shoes,
Lacing my shoes was a taxing torment,
PG-8, our living room, win or lose.
It was on another island, all to be,
I alone, away from my family,
Studies I, and ancient sports, wild and free,
Ends, beach, barbeque, camp, new friends, and me.
The flight home, alone again with much news,
The stewardess walks kid with unlaced shoes.
